OUR NEED:
How does a club like the Gig Harbor Canoe and
Kayak Team stay afloat? A typical racing class K-1 sets the
team back at least $3,500. A racing K-4 closer to
$9,000-$10,000! And a growing community club like this needs
lots of boats! With no regular stream of public funding, how
on earth does a club like this do it?
And then there are the results! GHCKRT
continues to amass a staggering quantity of national medals,
including a number of National Championship individual and team-boat
paddlers. If these medals were made out of real gold, we'd be
in great shape! But they're not!

OUR SUPPORT:
So, how does a club with this kind of success
pull it off? The bottom line? Great
coaching, extraordinary young athletes and
community support.
Alan Anderson, the coach and founder, has a
vision. And he has drive. And he knows how to motivate
kids.
Every family on this club supports the club
monthly - but none of us thinks that this source of funds can
actually keep things going.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
GHCKRT is at a crossroads. In 2007, 15
athletes from clubs around the U.S. qualified to compete in the
Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic. Five of
these athletes were from Gig Harbor!
What next? Train and train hard.
Train year round in every considerable condition. The goal,
the dream... to represent their country in the Olympic Games.
Start thinking London, 2012. Wouldn't it be
exciting for the Gig harbor community to see their very own athletes
compete in the highest level of international competition - and
win?! It can happen - it is happening. But all this
costs money. GHCKRT needs your help. The club is a
503(c) not-for-profit organization and all your donations are tax
deductible. Every dime goes directly to supporting these young
athletes. Join the team!
