Alan Anderson bought a used Kayak in 1983 and
started entering local races in the Puget Sound area. While
winning most of the low key sea kayak races in the area he
became enthralled with the sport while watching the 1984
Olympics in Los Angeles. With the Olympic dream firmly
entrenched in his mind he spent the next four years training for
the 1988 Olympic team. This goal was not to be. Starting an
Olympic dream at 28 years old was too much to ask for and having
no organized coaching in the Northwest compounded the task.
After taking a few years off with his young
family, he came back to the sport in 2002 when he created the
Gig Harbor Team. Alan's intent now, is building a program
for young athletes to pursue their own dreams.
